Robert Sanchez will discuss the impact that Wharton had on his career progression with Ryder System, the firm he joined upon receiving his MBA from Wharton in 1993. In addition, he will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Ryder including the movement to green/clean energy, advancements in supply chain management, outsourcing, and logistics, and addressing Wall Street’s quarterly expectations. Ryder has been experiencing incredible growth over the past three years. Learn how Robert has helped guide Ryder into new markets such as sales and leasing and why it is considered a barometer for the US economy.

 

About the Speaker:

Over the course of nearly two decades at Ryder, Mr. Sanchez has held a broad range of leadership positions. He has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Ryder System, Inc.; Executive Vice President of Operations of U.S. FMS; Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Ryder System, Inc.; Senior Vice President of Transportation Management, SCS; and Vice President of Asset Management, FMS.

Mr. Sanchez joined Ryder in 1993, serving with distinction in positions of increasing responsibility, including Regional Finance Director for SCS; Group Director of Financial Analysis; and Manager of Strategic Planning. Before joining Ryder in 1993, he was an applications engineer at Florida Power and Light and a controls engineer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft.

Mr. Sanchez was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of Texas Instruments in March 2011. He is a Board Member of the Association of Cuban Engineers (ACE) and Chairman of the Scholarship Foundation. In addition, Mr. Sanchez is a member of the United Way Leadership Circle and the Wharton Alumni Association.

In 2010, The South Florida Business Journal named Mr. Sanchez CFO of the Year for the South Florida region, recognizing the important role he and his team played in maintaining Ryder's strong financial position during the economic upheaval of 2009. In 2002, he received the Young Hispanic Leadership Award, and in 2001, was named ACE Engineer of the Year. Mr. Sanchez earned his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in Finance and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Miami
