SOLD OUT - Please join the Wharton Club of Chicago for a special evening with Gordon Brown

2017.10.26_mgb_photo3.jpegTwo years ago the Pew Research Center said America’s middle class is “no longer the majority and falling behind financially.” This followed decades-long decreases in productivity, entrepreneurship, health and civic engagement paralleled by large increases in mortgage debt. Gordon’s recent book published by Routledge, Access, Property and American Urban Space, shows how these declines followed a regime shift in the the way metropolitan areas built their street and road systems that altered widespread access patterns. His talk will describe the relationship between real estate usage and productivity, historical effects of large-scale spatial patterns, the big spatial dilemma we face, and what both real estate professionals and engaged citizens can do to shift our economy into high gear.

M. Gordon Brown, Principal of Space Analytics, LLC, is an expert on the effects of real estate configuration on human and economic performance. He founded his firm in 1989 after developing a new method to quantify spatial patterns as networks and has analyzed urban and suburban shopping centers, shopping streets, public space, multi-family housing, industrial facilities, museums, very large luxury houses, healthcare facilities, neighborhoods, office and other buildings and spaces in the United States and Europe. He has published extensively, won awards for his work and was a professor and administrator in architecture, business and real estate at universities in the United States, the Middle East and Europe.
