The Shedd Aquarium, the Guanacaste Dry Forest Conservation Fund, the Penn Club of Chicago and the Wharton Club of Chicago invite you to a very special evening presentation by tropical biologist Dr. Daniel Janzen on Thursday, Sept 21, 2017 at 7:00 PM, Phelps Auditorium at Shedd Aquarium.
Dan Janzen, Ph.D, and his wife Winnie Hallwachs, Ph.D, have been partners in one of the most globally significant experiments in tropical biodiversity restoration and conservation in Area de Conservacion Guanacaste (ACG) in northwest Costa Rica. Dr. Janzen will discuss his 45 years of work in Costa Rica, how a large and complex tropical national park can be “biodiversity developed” and why this matters to the rest of the world.
Dr. Janzen is a tropical ecologist with 63 years of field experience and 522 scientific papers focused on tropical animals and plants. He is DiMaura Professor of Conservation Biology at the University of Pennsylvania, Technical Advisor to ACG, and recipient of numerous conservation awards. Dr. Janzen is a world-level authority on the taxonomy and biology of tropical caterpillars and a member of the US and Costa Rican National Academies of Science.
Doors open at 6:30 PM. Talk begins at 7:00 PM Followed by Q&A with Dr. Janzen and GDFCF Staff. There will also be a private reception at 6pm for donors and interested Penn alums.
