Member Benefits...

Dear fellow Wharton Alumni -

On behalf of the Wharton Club of Chicago we would like to invite you to join us and become a part of a truly tangible component of the Wharton community.  Maybe you want to deepen your relationships, or maybe you need an opportunity to reconnect. Either way, this is it.

With over 1,200 graduate and undergraduate alumni in the Chicago area, the Wharton Club provides high quality and engaging events as well as great networking opportunities.  As we head into the fall, the reinvigorated Club is organizing more events across many different interest areas (both business and non-business) as well as in various locations.  We know there is substantial interest in making the Club as valuable to the Chicago Wharton community as possible; all that is needed now is you!!!

Events

Here is a sampling of the kinds of events we have had recently and/or are planning in the upcoming months:

  • Bob Levy, MBA ’74 Chairman - Harris Associates, presented the "State of the School" and provided insights on how to successfully invest during the recession

  • Connie Duckworth, MBA ’79, spoke about her career at Goldman Sachs as the first woman sales and trading partner in the firm's history and the work she is doing in Afghanistan helping local women sell their handmade rugs throughout the world

  • Club member Chris Nadherny, a partner at executing recruiting firm Spencer Stuart, presented an overview on best practices for career management

  • Cara Costello, Senior Associate Director of Alumni Services, MBA Career Management at Wharton provided one-on-one counseling session for alums in transition

  • We had a picnic dinner, followed by a sunset cruise sailing on Lake Michigan

  • On the first Thursday of each month we have a Happy Hour at the W Hotel where we get together to rekindle friendships, make new ones and expand our personal networks. The first event had more than 50 alums, and future events will involve other local MBA alumni clubs such as Harvard

  • A future event, tentatively scheduled for October 20, will involve a “Dress For Success” workshop with the experts form Sak’s Fifth Avenue. Helpful advice on Business Casual attire and a shopping discount will be available for all attendees. Spouses/partners are welcome to attend

  • Professor David Reibstein, marketing guru and frequently published author will be presenting on November 8 at the Peninsula hotel in Chicago. Several Wharton personnel from Philadelphia will also be in attendance

  • Industry specific breakfast meetings with speakers of interest to that industry as well as targeted networking opportunities
